Job registration requirement from 2026

The list of occupation types that have to be registered is updated in the fourth quarter every year and applies from 1 January to 31 December of the subsequent year. The sole criterion that determines whether occupations need to be registered is an unemployment rate of at least 5% in the occupation in question.

The rates are calculated for the whole of Switzerland on the basis of the twelve-month average for occupations according to the Federal Statistical Office’s Swiss Standard Classification of Occupations CH-ISCO-19.

Explanations on the list of occupation types subject to the job registration requirement in 2026

The number of occupation types subject to the job registration requirement will increase again compared with the previous year (2025). All occupation types that are subject to the job registration requirement in 2025 will remain so in 2026. The occupation type with the highest number of employed persons subject to the job registration requirement in 2026 will again be unskilled construction workers, with 88,187 employed persons. Cleaners and helpers in offices, hotels and other establishments were last subject to the job registration requirement in 2023. In the calculation period for the 2026 list, this occupation type had an unemployment rate of 5.3 per cent and thus exceeded the threshold of 5 per cent. Cooks were not subject to the job registration requirement from 2023 to 2025. They were last subject to the requirement in 2022. The threshold for this occupation type was also exceeded in the relevant calculation period, with an unemployment rate of 5.3 per cent. As a result, these two occupation types will be subject to the job registration requirement again from 2026. While 6.5 per cent of employed persons work in occupation types subject to the job registration requirement in 2025, this will rise to 10.8 per cent in 2026.
