The number of occupation types that are subject to the job registration requirement is rising again compared with previous years. In 2025, 6.5% of the working population will be active in occupations that have to be registered. Among the new occupations that are subject to the job registration requirement from 2025 are sales and marketing managers and restaurant service staff.

The number of unemployed people increased month-on-month in November by 4,667 (+4.0%) to 121,114. Compared with the same month last year, unemployment has risen by 23,103 (+23.6%). The unemployment rate saw a month-on-month increase of 0.1 percentage points to 2.6% in November.

Both components of the Swiss Labour Market Barometer remained in negative territory in December 2024. In specific terms, the outlook for registered unemployment (seasonally adjusted) is slightly more negative than the previous month. Conversely, the outlook for employment (seasonally adjusted) in the next three months improved slightly.

The figures section also provides an insight into the most important key performance indicators relating to unemployment insurance.

The majority of jobseekers and employers are satisfied with the services provided by staff at the regional employment centres (RAVs) and unemployment insurance funds. This is the result of three customer surveys conducted in the first half of 2024.
